Signing in and recovery
Sign in, stay signed in, sign out, and get back in if you forget your password.
Nifty has one username and password: yours. The Mac app signs you in by itself, so this page is mostly for using Nifty in a browser.
- Open your Nifty's address.
- Type your Username and Password.
- Tick Remember this device to stay signed in for 30 days. Leave it off on a shared computer.
- Choose Sign in.
Without Remember this device, you're signed out when you close the browser or after 12 hours away.
Sign out
Choose Nifty → Sign out.
In the Mac app, Sign out only shows once you've set a password, so you can always get back in.
Change your username or password
Open Settings → Sign-in. Both ask for your current password, once you have one. Changing the password signs out your other devices. See Settings.
Forgot your password?
You need a terminal on the machine Nifty runs on. There, run:
nifty recovery-url
It prints a link. Open it within 15 minutes, type a new password twice, and choose Set password and sign in.
- The link works once. Making a new one cancels the old one.
- Using it signs you out everywhere else. API tokens keep working.
Recovery has the details for a server, such as running it as the server's user.
Too many attempts
After several wrong passwords in a row, Nifty says Too many failed sign-ins and waits 15 minutes. Wait, or set
a new password with nifty recovery-url.
